Bethlehem Baptist Church 1900

This is a slightly different format that I've become accustomed to, so have patience with me while I learn it. I'd previously posted all of these on my Family Blog, but these Bethlehem pages had taken over the blog, so I decided to create this new one.  Double click on the photos to read them yourself, or you can read my summary beside it.


p. 22 (at the bottom of the page begins 1900)
Jan. 1900  Sat before second Sunday in January 1900.  Church met and after services by the Pastor Bro. E. J. Hemrick Church was called to order and proceeded to business in the usual manner. 1st visiting Bretheren invited to a seat. . . 

. . . in council 2nd door of the church opened for membership and Sister America Montgomery was received under the watch care of the church until a letter could be received from her Church.  Being no unfinished business, church adjorned to meet Sat. before second Sun. in Feb. 1900.  E.J. . . .The Clerk not being present, J.S. McKay was appointed Clerk Protem.  Not having the minutes of last meeting, no unfinished business and no new business, the church then adjorned before the 2nd Sunday in March 1900.  E.J. Hemrick, Mod; J.S. McKay, Clerk Protem




p.24 [Although there wasn't any business for March, there was for April]

April 1900
Sat before Sec. Sunday in April 1900, Church met and after services by our pastor E.J. Hemrick, Church was called to order and proceeded to business in the usual manner.  1st visiting Brethren were invited to a seat in council. 2nd Door of Church was opened for membership.  Motion was made to reconsider Sister Lillie Perkins membership and to receive her in her experience and baptism which was excepted[sic].  Church then adj. to meet Sat before sec. Sun. in May.

May 1900

Sat. before second Sunday in May Church met and after services by E.J. Hemrick, Church was called to order for the transaction of business.  Clerk being absent W.R. Williams was appointed Clerk protem.  Being no unfinished business and no new business, Church adjorned to meet Sat. before second Sunday in June.

Nov. 1900 Sat before second Sunday in Nov. Church was in regular session after sermon by Pastor.  Door of church was opened for membership.  None rec'd.  L. H. Reiter (pictured to the right) appointed Clerk Protem.  Minutes of October read and approved on motion church agree to pay Pastor $75 for ensuing year.  L. H. Reiter and Anna McKay appointed to collector.  Church adjorned to meet on Sat. before second Sun in Dec.

Dec. 1900 [after the usual beginning] Letters of dismissal to Bros. Jake Edsel and Jas. Portnoy and also Sister (Henry) Nevels to unite with some other church of the same faith and order. The clerk was instructed to notify Brother Tobe Dicky that his acknowledgement was accepted with the church [and could get a letter on request]
