1902 Church Minutes

p. 38  Jan. 1902: After a prayer by N. Eoff, there was no business and the meeting was adjourned until Feb. 1902.     N.M. Pierce, Moderator    J.S. McKay Clerk protem

Feb. 1902: There wasn't any business.
March 1902:  1st, 2nd, 3rd items were:  open door for new members, seating visitors, reading the minutes.  ". . .4th A resolution offered to set aside March and April of each year to collect for state missions.  5th Our pastor offered his resignation of which the church accepted. . . ." N.M. Pierce, Moderator; G. W. Harrison, C.C.

April 1902: "1st elected Bro. J.S. McKay, Moderator.  After song and prayer church proceeded to elect a pastor to fill vacancy of N.M. Pierce unexpired term which resulted in electing Bro. E.J. Hemrick. . . J.S. McKay, Moderator; G. W. Harrison, CC"

May 1902:  There wasn't any business.
June 1902 ". . . sermon by Elder E.J. Hemrick. . . .Bro. W.R. Williams was appointed clerk protem. . ." There was no other business.

Aug. 1902 "Pastor not being present, Bro. J.S. McKay, Moderator protem. . .we then proceeded to elect pastor which resulted in re-election of E.J. Hemrick. . . (Amendment) Association letter approved by the church.  John S. McKay, Mod. protem; Geo. W. Harrison, Clerk"


Oct. 1902 ". . .Sister Maggie [Graham] Blake called for a letter from church which was granted and clerk ordered to write same. . .E.J.Hemrick, Mod; G.W. Harrison, Church Clerk."
Nov. 1902 ". . . after services byour pastor E.J. Hemrick, church was called to order for the transaction of business. . ."  E.J.Hemrick, Mod; G.W. Harrison, Church Clerk

Bethlehem Church Records 1901

Dec. 1901:  The second Sunday in December 1901.  After a sermon, the meeting was called to order. "Min. of Sept. Meeting read and approved.  Bro. G.W. Harrison asked the church to elect another clerk in his place.  The church then elected Bro. Jas. Bittick.  As no farther business, the church then adjourned to meet on the Sat. before the second in Jan. 1902.  Elder N.M. Pierce Moderator J.S. McKay Clerk Protem"

July 13, 1901 "After a sermon by the pastor Eld. N.M. Pierce, the church was called to order and proceeded to business.  1st a motion was made and carried that the church correspond with the Jefferson County Baptist Association when convened with Providence Church Sept 5 1901.  2nd on motion the clerk was ordered to write corresponding letter to be presented to the church for its reception at our Aug. meeting.  3rd the Church then proceeded to ballot for Delegates which resulted in the election of Bros. Wm. Powers, Robert McKay and J.S. McKay.  The Church then adjorned to meet on the Sat. before the second sun. in Aug. 1901 Eld. N.M. Pierce, Mod. J.S. McKay clerk protem.

Feb. 1901
"Sat before second in Feb. church met and after scripture reading and prayer was called to order.  There being no business. Robt. McKay was elected church clerk protem.  Church adjorned to meet Sat. before the second Sunday in March.

Pierce.  Church proceeded to business in the usual manner. 1st visiting Bros. and Sisters were invited to a seat in council. 2nd door of church opened for membership. No response. 3rd. sister Lulu Perkins and Bro. Jas. Eoff called for Letters of dismissal from church which was granted. 4th Bro. L.H. Reiter (Louis H. Reiter) and G. W. Harrison was added to committee for purpose of raising money to finish _____ for painting of church.  There being no unfinished business, church then adjorned to meet Sat. before second Sunday in Feb.

Bethlehem Baptist Church 1900

This is a slightly different format that I've become accustomed to, so have patience with me while I learn it. I'd previously posted all of these on my Family Blog, but these Bethlehem pages had taken over the blog, so I decided to create this new one.  Double click on the photos to read them yourself, or you can read my summary beside it.

Jan. 1900  Sat before second Sunday in January 1900.  Church met and after services by the Pastor Bro. E. J. Hemrick Church was called to order and proceeded to business in the usual manner. 1st visiting Bretheren invited to a seat. . . 

. . . in council 2nd door of the church opened for membership and Sister America Montgomery was received under the watch care of the church until a letter could be received from her Church.  Being no unfinished business, church adjorned to meet Sat. before second Sun. in Feb. 1900.  E.J. p.24 [Although there wasn't any business for March, there was for April]

April 1900
Sat before Sec. Sunday in April 1900, Church met and after services by our pastor E.J. Hemrick, Church was called to order and proceeded to business in the usual manner.  1st visiting Brethren were invited to a seat in council. 2nd Door of Church was opened for membership.  Motion was made to reconsider Sister Lillie Perkins membership and to receive her in her experience and baptism which was excepted[sic].  Church then adj. to meet Sat before sec. Sun. in May.

Sat. before second Sunday in May Church met and after services by E.J. Hemrick, Church was called to order for the transaction of business.  Clerk being absent W.R. Williams was appointed Clerk protem.  Being no unfinished business and no new business, Church adjorned to meet Sat. before second Sunday in June.

Nov. 1900 Sat before second Sunday in Nov. Church was in regular session after sermon by Pastor.  Door of church was opened for membership.  None rec'd.  L. H. Reiter (pictured to the right) appointed Clerk Protem.  Minutes of October read and approved on motion church agree to pay Pastor $75 for ensuing year.  L. H. Reiter and Anna McKay appointed to collector.  Church adjorned to meet on Sat. before second Sun in Dec.

Dec. 1900 [after the usual beginning] Letters of dismissal to Bros. Jake Edsel and Jas. Portnoy and also Sister (Henry) Nevels to unite with some other church of the same faith and order. The clerk was instructed to notify Brother Tobe Dicky that his acknowledgement was accepted with the church [and could get a letter on request]
